PREMIERE: Nicco Homaili reckons with himself in emotional 'Doppelgänger' music video - watch

Michael Jackson’s ‘Man in the Mirror’, meet Nicco Homaili’s ‘Doppelgänger’. Both songs chronicle the duality of the self and, ultimately, the salvation that one side can bring to the other. In both songs, the stakes are incredibly high: Nothing less than spiritual rebirth.

Earlier this morning, Nicco released his latest single ‘Doppelgänger’, the follow-up to his prior single 'Dots in a Dot', via Umami Records and now, he premieres its accompanying music video with Bandwagon. The song is, frankly, Nicco’s best yet. Genre-agnostic, it’s a shrouded, hauntingly gorgeous mesh of tight, hard-knocking bass, gooey synths and twinkling, ray-of-light textures. Its thematic beating heart is metaphysical and artistic: “Correct me when my ways goes wrong / Tell me to put them all in a song / I can never find the faith to write / Without having your presence in my mind”. One hand washes the other – but one soul saves the other.

Accordingly, the visuals, brilliantly helmed by Yungtaufoo Productions, are alternately stark and panoramic. Beginning with an emphatic man-in-the-mirror scene, they follow Nicco to an empty warehouse and to arid desert-like landscape, affirming that no matter where you go, that other voice in your head will follow you. There are glitchy, strobing effects and moody, almost surreal filters. Because, "Correcting down a sinner wrong make him brand new" is never an easy task.

But if ‘Doppelgänger’’s message resonates with you, that voice is a creative and uplifting one.
