Rachael Yamagata is making her long-awaited return to Singapore! Happening on 16 September at Foo Chow Hall, this upcoming show marks the singer-songwriter’s first gig here since 2018, and her only Southeast Asia stop for this Starlit Alchemy Tour.

For fans in Singapore and across the region, this is more than a comeback show. Yamagata has long held a special connection with listeners here (having played the country nine times to date), returning over the years for the kind of intimate, soul-baring performances that feel less like a concert and more like a late-night confession shared among friends.

The showcase will be anchored in her acclaimed fifth studio album, Starlit Alchemy, released via Jullian Records. Arriving nine years after Tightrope Walker, the record finds Yamagata entering a new chapter — one shaped by grief, surrender, resilience, and release.

Written before and during 2020, funded through international touring, and recorded mostly in her home studio in the Catskill mountains with longtime collaborators, Starlit Alchemy captures Yamagata fully in the driver’s seat of her career. 13 years self-managed and untethered by genre or obligation, she returns not just as the heartbreak storyteller fans first fell in love with, but as an artist turning pain, memory, and transformation into something cinematic.

Yamagata first emerged in the early 2000s with her critically acclaimed debut Happenstance, introducing songs such as ‘Be Be Your Love’, ‘Worn Me Down’, ‘1963’, and ‘Reason Why’ — tracks that continue to define her raw, confessional songwriting. She would go on to release beloved records including Elephants…Teeth Sinking Into Heart, Chesapeake, and Tightrope Walker, while working with artists such as Liz Phair, Toots and The Maytals, Ray LaMontagne, Ryan Adams, and Bright Eyes.

Her music has also lived powerfully on screen. Across the years, Yamagata’s songs have found a home in major film and television soundtracks, including Grey’s Anatomy, helping bring her aching, emotionally direct songwriting to audiences around the world. Recently, her voice found a new wave of listeners through the hit Netflix K-drama Something in the Rain, starring Son Ye-jin and Jung Hae-in. Her songs ‘Something in the Rain’ and ‘La La La’ became defining tracks of the series, soundtracking its tender romance and introducing her music to a new generation of fans.
