SM Entertainment sells nearly 18 million albums in 2021, led by NCT 127, NCT DREAM, EXO, Baekhyun, and NCT

Following the success of their year-end concert, SMTOWN2022 : SMCU EXPRESS @ KWANGYA, which set a new view record for a Korean online concert with 51 million streams in 161 regions worldwide, SM Entertainment continues to break their own records. 

The entertainment company sold nearly 18 million albums in 2021, doubling the amount of the previous year. 

Home to various groups and solo acts such as Super Junior, SHINee, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT, NCT 127, NCT DREAM, WayV, aespa, TVXQ Yunho, Super Junior-D&E, BoA, Yesung, Key, Taemin, Baekhyun, D.O., Kai, Wendy, and Joy, SM Entertainment released a total of 25 albums in 2021, selling 1,5043,000 copies. As of 31 December 2021, SM Entertainment's annual album sales totalled to 17,621,000 copies.

In particular, NCT 127 and NCT DREAM's albums sold over a million pre-orders three times. NCT 127's Sticker reached 1.13 million pre-orders within the first 24 hours, and the repackaged album, Favorite, sold a total of 1.1 million copies in one week after its release. Pre-orders for NCT DREAM's first studio album, Hot Sauce, surpassed 1,716,571 copies, whle EXO, Baekhyun, and NCT albums sold over a million copies combined. 

With all 25 albums released in 2021 entering Gaon's annual TOP 100 for the year, it's no wonder the company achieved a new record with their physical sales. 

Most recently, SM Entertainment debuted a new female supergroup, Girls On Top, composed of BoA, and members of Girls' Generation, Red Velvet, and aespa, while SNSD Taeyeon is set to release a new single 'Can't Control Myself',  keeping fans excited for what the company and its artists have in store for in 2022.
