YouTube Music introduces Smart Downloads for offline listening

YouTube Music has introduced a new feature, Smart Downloads, for premium subscribers. This new function will automatically download up to 500 songs for users to listen whenever and wherever, even without data coverage.

Offline playback is already available to premium subscribers if the music is manually downloaded. With Smart Downloads, YouTube Music automatically downloads music that suits a user’s preference by referring to their liked songs, favourite playlists and frequented albums. The first 100 tracks downloaded by Smart Downloads will be from the preexisting Offline Mixtape, a playlist based on a user’s listening history.

Smart Downloads will happen overnight while connected to Wi-Fi, and users will be able to limit the number of downloads made.

This comes after the news that YouTube Music and Universal Music Group will be remastering nearly 1000 iconic music videos.
