Estonian National Male Choir
The Grammy Award-winning Estonian National Male Choir makes its Singapore debut at the Esplanade Concert Hall, presenting choral works from the 19th century to the present! The choir will be performing pieces by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Sergei Rachmaninov, Henrik Ødegaard, Galina Grigoryeva, Giovanni Bonato and Veljo Tormis. Founded in 1944 by legendary composer and leader of the Estonian choral movement, Gustav Emesaks, the choir has since grown to become the largest full-time professional male choir in the world. Over its 60 years of existence, they have given more than 6000 concerts all over Estonia, in many cities of former Soviet Union, as well as Western European countries, Israel, Canada and the US.
In 2004, the choir won the Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance for their recording of Sibelius’ cantatas. A year later, their recording of Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt was voted the Orchestral Album of the Year in BBC Music Magazine.
Jointly presented by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay and Eesti Kontsert. This performance in Singapore is part of Estonia 100.
