Over 160 years ago, Louis Vuitton spawned one of the world's largest luxury fashion brands. This year, the French company is celebrating its founder's 200th birthday with 200 trunks.

Symbolising the very item he founded the fashion brand on in 1854, Louis Vuitton will be unveiling their grand 'Louis 200' project that features 200 trunks specially designed by notable figures across multiple backgrounds and industries. This includes musicians, visual artists, Olympians, and many more.

One of the selected contributors are global pop group BTS, who made their runway debut at Louis Vuitton Men's Fall-Winter 2021 show earlier this month. According to The New York Times, the group designed their trunk with doodles of whales, colourful stripes, hearts, and carrots.

Drake is also said to have contributed to the Louis 200 project. In 2017, the Canadian rapper debuted the song 'Signs', which was inspired by that season's collection, at the Louis Vuitton Paris runway.

Among the 200 trunk designers are also author Susan Miller, luxury fashion designer Marc Jacobs, Paralympic swimmer Théo Curin, illustrator Jean-Philippe Delhomm, and many more.

The trunks will be displayed in Louis Vuitton boutiques across the world on 4 August, exactly 200 years from their founder's birth. The trunks will also be part of a charity auction where Louis Vuitton has pledged USD 11,800 for each item; all the profits are said to be distributed across 15 art education programs around the world.

As part of the celebration, the luxury company will also be launching an NFT-embedded mobile game, a documentary, and social media projects.
