Lollapalooza 2022 highlights — BTS' j-hope, TXT, Måneskin, Dua Lipa, Metallica, and more

Lollapalooza just closed out its highly anticipated return to the live music scene.

Over four days, the music festival put together performances from artists all across the world that span an array of different genres. Thousands of music fans gathered at Chicago's Grant Park for one of this year's most exciting parties while another couple hundred thousand across the world tuned in via an exclusive livestream by Hulu

From long-awaited reunions to some historic festival firsts, Lollapalooza 2022 had it all. Here are some highlights from this year's festival.

BTS' j-hope

BANDWAGON TV

j-hope was undeniably a festival favourite this year, with BTS fans and festival goers anticipating the rapper's grand festival debut known as HOBIPALOOZA. His ground-shaking performance was not only his first live stage as a soloist but also the first time a Korean act has headlined a major US festival. It's safe to say the j-hope made history with over 105,000 people in attendance, and 14.9 million viewers on Weverse LIVE.

His phenomenal hour-long set, backed by a live band, included powerful performances of tracks from his latest album, Jack In The Box and his 2018 mixtape Hope World. The 'MORE' hitmaker also treated the crowd with live renditions of BTS' 'Cypher Pt. 1' and 'Dynamite (Tropical Remix)', as well as the first-ever live performance of 'Chicken Noodle Soup' with Becky G

Måneskin

You can always trust Måneskin to turn up the party. The Italian rock band have always been unapologetically rock and roll and their Lollapalooza debut was no different. Supercharged, loud, and dressed to the nines, Måneskin had everyone jumping, dancing, and banging their heads to their performance, making sure that everyone would remember the first time they stood on the grand festival stage.

Måneskin performed their greatest hits including 'Beggin', 'Supermodel', 'I Wanna Be Your Slave', and their latest single 'We're Gonna Dance On Gasoline'

TXT

Hours before their Lollapalooza set, TXT went on to Weverse Live to talk to their fans to calm their nerves before their US festival debut. "What if we go to Lollapalooza and no one knows us? What if our stage is filled with entire silence?" said the band. It's safe to say their stage was anything but silent.

The 'Good Boy Gone Bad' act stunned the crowd with live renditions of their biggest hit including 'Anti-Romantic', 'Thursday's Child', 'LO$ER=LOER', and their newly released 'Valley of Lies' where they brought out iann dior. Being the first-ever K-pop group to perform at Lollapalooza holds a lot of pressure but TXT undeniably delivered. From stunning vocals to power stage presence, they set a high precedent for what's to come.

Metallica

Metallica made the most out of their return to Lollapalooza, playing an almost two-hour long set as both old and new fans congregated to see the heavy metal band in all their glory. From gut-punching riffs to ass-kicking beats, they showed the crowd why they're still one of the world's greatest bands to date.

"Forty-one years to still be up here kicking your asses and you still kicking ours… We were born to do this and we’re glad we’re still doing it,” said Metallica's frontman James Hetfield

Metallica performed 'Whiplash', 'Creeping Death', 'Seek & Destroy', and more before closing out their set with the track that's been experiencing a renaissance 'Master of Puppets' which they dedicated to the show the re-popularised the song Stranger Things and its beloved rockstar character Eddie Munson (played by Joseph Quinn who actually joined the band backstage).

Big Sean

Big Sean is back home at Lollapalooza for the first time since 2017. As the sun set, the renowned rapper performed 'Why Would I Stop?', 'My Last', and 'Play No Games'

The most notable part of Big Sean's set was of course when he brought out R&B star and longtime girlfriend Jhené Aiko onto the stage to perform 'I Know' along with their soon-to-come child. Both on and off stage, the rapper praised the 'Sativa' singer for sharing this monumental moment with him.

Dua Lipa

In true Dua Lipa fashion, the 'Levitating' singer turned Lollapalooza into her very own retro disco party as she performed 'Physical', 'New Rules', 'Don't Start Now', and more.

This is not Dua Lipa's first time at Lollapalooza but there was something truly special about her return. Whether it was because she took over the main stage for a headlining set or the fact she was in her popstar element, the 'Future Nostalgia' act shined like never before.

Griff

If you didn't know Griff before, you certainly will after her Lollapalooza set. Armed with a powerful voice and emotions that hit home, the emerging singer-songwriter proved exactly why she deserved a spot in this year's festival lineup.

Her breakout festival set includes performances of 'Head on Fire', 'Heart of Gold', 'Forgive Myself', and more.

Wallows

Much like their music, Wallows' festival set was homey and warm. The California indie band had the power to make the vast Grant Park feel like cosy campfire as they sang 'Marvelous', 'Pleaser', 'These Days', and more.

Audrey Nuna

Audrey Nuna has always been a treat to watch on stage and her breakout performance at Lollapalooza certainly did not disappoint. The up-and-coming R&B star gave an exciting and dynamic set at the festival that reminded the crowd that truly nothing can replace the fun of live music.
