Taylor Swift performs 'False God' live for the first time and stripped-down rendition of 'Lover'

Following the recent release of her seventh studio album, Lover, Taylor Swift returned to Saturday Night Live with two songs off the record, 'False God' and 'Lover'. This follows the music video release of her third single 'Lover'.

Against a backdrop of torn pages suspended in time, she begins with a raw, stripped-down rendition of 'Lover' on the piano. Following that, she emerges from the shadows and delivers an intense rendition of 'False God', her first live performance of this number.

Striding purposefully in the atmospheric space, she transforms this innately laid-back R&B and jazz-inspired track into something simmering and almost strident. A mesmerising saxophone solo cuts through some of the edge but it returns in full-force when she strikes out hard with the lyrics, "Hell is when I fight with you".
