Slipknot are turning to a brand-new chapter with the release of 'The Chapeltown Rag'.

On Friday (05/11), the American heavy metal act unveiled their new raw single 'The Chapeltown Rag' via Roadrunner Records.

"It's a punisher, man," vocalist Corey Taylor shared with Knotfest in an interview. The hard-hitting track was inspired by Chapeltown, a suburb in West Yorkshire, England that was plagued by Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper, in the late 1970s.

Taylor first happened upon Chapeltown's dark past after watching a documentary about Sutcliffe on Netflix. From there, the algorithm of the video streaming platform led him down a rabbit hole of killer documentaries.

"At that moment, everything was just kind of steering towards violence, or a history of violence," Taylor revealed. "And it was just such a weird echo of social media. And the fact that social media tries to steer you towards violence or steer you towards the most toxic thing—the most toxic moment. So, I looked at it from that standpoint."

Taylor describes 'The Chapeltown Rag' as "classic Slipknot." He said, "And it’s frenetic. But lyrically, it’s coming from a point of talking about the various manipulations that can happen when social media meets media itself. And the different ways that these manipulations can try to pull us in different directions, in the fact that we’re all becoming addicts to it, which is very, very dangerous."

Slipknot are scheduled to appear at Knotfest LA this coming 5 November at 9 p.m. EST/6 November at 9 a.m. PHT/SGT with a pre-show at 4 p.m. EST, 4 a.m. PHT/SGT.

The upcoming festival, which also features performances by Killswitch Engage, Fever 333, Code Orange, and the "sons of Slipknot" act Vended, will be Slipknot's first livestream event.
