Phoenix debut new single "J-Boy" on Apple Music's Beats 1 with Zane Lowe, unveil "Ti Amo" tracklist

Phoenix debuted the first single off of their forthcoming album Ti Amo on Apple Music's Beats 1 with Zane Lowe earlier today (4/27). The track called "J-Boy" is apparently an acronym for the song's chorus which goes "just because of you."

I met Phoenix and ended up on their Instagram

Zane Lowe talked to Phoenix front man Thomas Mars about the new song and the forthcoming album which has taken three years to make.

On when the band knew that "J-Boy" had found its form:

We felt it right away. The four of us, we saw something that we each liked in it. For myself, it has this romantic sci-fi quality that I always wanted to put in the sound, in the lyrics, in all these things, and at the same time it sounded like, it's almost like French boogie... this weird style of music from the '80s that was not really rap but sort of like awkward talking, so it's a bit of this plus it feels new to us, so I guess it had all these elements combined that we felt ["J-Boy"] was a safe bet to be on the record.

On the feeling of excitement between finishing the album and releasing it:

It's very exciting. It's just yours. You know when you're excited about a news you wanna tell, if you're getting married, and you know you're getting married and you're gonna tell everyone. You know just sharing this, it feels the same.

The band have teased the album in the past few weeks through their social media pages and Sofia Coppola's new Calvin Klein ad, and announced earlier this week via a New York Times interview that Ti Amo will be out on June 9 via Glassnote RecordsTi Amo is the band's first album in three years following 2013's Bankrupt! which they toured in the Philippines for the first time in 2014. Clips of performances of new songs from the album also surfaced online following the band's concert in Belgium, their first live show since 2014.
