Gig Picks: July 2016

Gig Picks: July 2016

We're more than halfway into July but there's still soooo much going on.

Here are our top picks for the rest of the month:

ANG NAWAWALA ANNIVERSARY

A special edition of Indie Manila's Elusive Silence series will feature a screening of the award winning indie film, Ang Nawawala. Movie starts at 7 pm so don't be late! A live performance of the seminal soundtrack ("the first Filipino vinyl release in 30 years!") by Tarsius, Hannah + Gabi, the Itchyworms, Ang Bandang Shirley, Ebe Dancel, Pedicab and super band Blast Ople will start at 9:30 pm. Director Marie Jamora will also be joining the festivities together with fans, old and new, to celebrate the fourth year anniversary of the film's Cinemalaya debut. Tickets are available at the door for 250 PhP.

DAMA: The Repeat

Missed the first run of the sold out show last February? Hope you were lucky enough this time to score tickets to DAMA: The Repeat. The singer-songwriter trio of Johnoy Danao, Ebe Dancel and Bullet Dumas, along with a bigger version of The Manila String Machine, are back for a second run. (We heard tickets are sold out - AGAIN. But you can try your luck here.)

DRAGONFLY COLLECTOR TOUR/MUSIC VIDEO LAUNCH

Back from his nationwide backpack tour of the archipelago, the Dragonfly Collector is set to soar across Southeast Asia next month. Clem Castro is also launching the music video for 'Dragonfly Collector', which also serves as the official video for The World is Your Oyster Philippine Tour 2015. The show also features performances by the Dragonfly Collector and Lilystars labelmate, Ian Penn

GOOD VIBES FEST PRE-PARTY

Want to see Two Door Cinema Club, The Temper Trap, Purity Ring, Ta-ku and more live? Jam 88.3's All Good Radio is giving away a pair of festival tickets (including airfare and accommodation!) to Malaysia's Good Vibes Fest 2016. Locked Down Entertainment is hosting a pre-party at Route 196 on Thursday, July 28. Click here for the contest mechanics.

ILUSTRADOS CELEBRATES LINGGO NG MUSIKANG PILIPINO

After the unfortunate cancellation of Intramuros Rising: Open City due to inclement weather, the Ilustrados are back to celebrate Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino. This time, they take the shows indoors - BUGSO featuring Sud, Musical O, The Strange Creatures, Paranoid City, Fools and Foes and Loba y Lobos at Saguijo and SIBOL at Teatrino with performances by Ang Bandang Shirley, Jensen and the Flips, Mellow Submarine, BennyBunnyBand, Banna Harbera and Ian Penn. Both shows are free of charge.

FILSCAP PRESENTS "SONGWRITERS' NIGHT: OPEN MIC"

Opening the Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino, FILSCAP is hosting its first-ever Songwriters' Night Open Mic at The Brewery at the Palace on July 25. Get onstage and share your original compositions with a crowd of fellow music lovers. Registration starts at 6:30 pm. For more details, check out their Facebook event page.

RED NINJA BDAY BASH

Okay, you're probably thinking "Didn't Red Ninja just celebrate their 7th birthday?" Yup, but we're talking about THE Red Ninja, Nicole Sarmiento, who will be celebrating her birthday with the Red Ninja family - Lions and Acrobats, Runway Crimes, Tonight We Sleep and musician friends Johnoy Danao, Ebe Dancel, Bullet Dumas and Jensen and the Flips. Door charge is 200 PhP with one free drink but early birds who arrive before 9 pm get a 100 PhP discount!

COMING HOME: A CLARA BENIN CONCERT

Singer-songwriter Clara Benin shocked fans with a sudden announcement earlier this month - a first (but also last) headlining concert. Her two-night residency at Teatrino will be joined by Reese Lansangan, Keiko Necesario and Rizza Cabrera. Tickets were reportedly sold out within hours of release but fans can get a chance to meet and greet the singer-songwriter before she says her final Goodbyes onstage. More details on Clara's official Facebook page.

12 MONKEYS TURNS 2

12 Monkeys Music Hall & Pub celebrates their 2nd birthday with a week's worth of live music - featuring performances by Autotelic, Nicole Asensio, Hale, Kjwan, MilesExperience, Jensen and the Flips, Brownman Revival, Up Dharma Down, CRWN, Parokya ni Edgar, Gloc 9 and more. Full anniversary line up and door charge rates here.

With a #BTSDanceOff and #BTSRapBattle, PULP Live World have come up with more ways to make your #BTSinManila experience worth every peso. Here's a look at BTS and their hip-hop roots - BTS: From One Rap Monster to Another

DISNEY SING-ALONG

Everyone's probably got a favorite Disney song and this is your chance to get onstage and sing it! Whatever your Disney jam is - 'Part of Your World', 'A Whole New World', 'Hakuna Matata' - call dibs on it here. The Disney Sing-Along happens on Sunday, July 31 at Catch 272
