kyo Singapore closes down

kyo Singapore closes down

It's often difficult to remain sustainable in Singapore's tough nightlife industry, and we've seen plenty of clubs rise and fall over the years. From beloved underground institutions like Home Club to monied mega-clubs like Zirca or Ministry of Sound, business can be rough.

The latest casualty of this up-and-down nocturnal world is sadly one of the coolest clubs we've ever been to - kyo.

The basement venue established a strong reputation as a sanctuary for tasteful house and techno from the get-go, and has striven to maintain its discerning programming since.

Celebrated for inspired bookings such as Ben UFO, Kenny Dope, Francois K, Tim Sweeney, Osunlade, Surgeon, Pete Herbert, KiNK, Octave One, and countless others, for a glorious stretch of time, kyo was the place to be for casuals and punters alike.

But unfortunately even the most respected of establishments face the prospect of shuttering eventually.

In a statement made via their Facebook page last night, the club will be "taking a break from the scene to reassess our direction and realign our strategies. When the time is right, we hope to revisit the idea of kyo Singapore in a new space."

The kyo team will be focusing their efforts on their newly opened branch in Kuala Lumpur for the time being, and we wish them well in their ventures up north. Hopefully whe the time is right, kyo Singapore will re-open in the near future.

The club's statement concludes, "From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for allowing us to be part of the dynamic music scene and part of the memories you've made at the basement for the past 4 years. Till we see you again on the dancefloor, always remember that music is love."

Indeed.
