When we hear news about new tunes coming from our favourite artists, there's this rush of excitement that runs through our veins, but when we hear about a collaboration, things head for a whole other level. All sorts of thoughts from "how will they pull this off?", "what's this going to sound like?", to "will this be everything I ever dreamed of?" haunt us even in our dreams as we wait for these tracks to drop. When it's finally there (and it's good), it could certainly make your entire year.

Top Albums/EPs of 2022 (so far) – BTS, Hikaru Utada, (G)I-DLE, DeVita, SixTONES, EPIK HIGH, and more

From PSY and SUGA to Benjamin Kheng and Bea Lorenzo, here are some of the Bandwagon editorial team's top collaborations (in no particular order) from 2022 so far:

‘THAT THAT’ - Psy ft. SUGA

BANDWAGON TV

Never did I think to see PSY and SUGA on the same song, but here it is and I’m obsessed. PSY has always been so good at releasing lead singles that are so unbelievably catchy and ‘That That’ is exactly that; it’s simple, fun, and silly.

The addition of SUGA, both on and behind the catchy hooks and groovy melodies, was an extra layer of oomph that really made the song stand our from everything else that PSY has released in the past. Also, whatever PSY did to convince SUGA to dance and act in the music video, I’m all here for it, haha. —Franchesca Judine Basbas, Staff Writer

‘Good For A Time’ - Benjamin Kheng & Bea Lorenzo

Oh, young love. What a bittersweet and beautiful thing. With ‘Good For A Time’, Benjamin Kheng and Bea Lorenzo get together to help us realize how much of an impact relationships that we had in our youth actually have on us as we grow up.

Benjamin and Bea sound absolutely wonderful together. The way their voices blend right around that stuck-in-your-head worthy chorus leaves me swooning and hoping they'd work together on more music soon.

And there's a shark in the music video, so extra bonus points for that! —Kara Bodegon-Hikino, Staff Writer

'Trouble' - Troye Sivan & Jay Som

I had no idea this was happening, I wasn’t sure if I was just out of the loop or they weren’t promoting it, but it was a pleasant surprise to find this on Apple Music. I think I was checking out New Releases and saw Troye Sivan and Jay Som together for a song and thought, “wait, what???”

“Oh sweet God, I think I’m in trouble,” this song has been on my daily rotation since. Kinda makes me wish they had some sort of collab EP, they sound so good together. —Camille Castillo, Editorial Director

Top Songs of 2022 (so far) – SEVENTEEN, Rina Sawayama, keshi, Gen Hoshino, ena mori, Jessi, Aimer, and more

'Good News' - Swim Deep & Dept.

Fronting Swim Deep’s upcoming EP of international collaborations, Familiarise Yourself with Your Closest Exit, this track was the first song from the drop that I heard and it stuck as my favourite even in comparison to the others. Encompassing the “staring at the bottom of the glass” or even “floating in a vacuum of time” energy, to me, this is one of the more relatable depictions of coming-of-age as it postulates the highs of youth only to lace it with the bittersweetness of how it is ultimately fleeting. —Andrea See, Writer

‘WINDY DAY’ - BIGONE, JAY B

When I heard that first guitar melody, I thought that there was no way JAY B was actually going to be on a pop-rock track, and there he was absolutely killing it. I was so excited, I literally alerted everyone I knew. This was also my gateway to BIGONE, who is my new favourite YA novel poster boy, haha. —Franchesca Judine Basbas, Staff Writer

‘COLD BLOOD’ - HEALTH & Lamb of God

You might know HEALTH as one of the artists that contributed music to Max Payne 3 and Grand Theft Auto, but you probably never would've imagined them to collaborate with a metal band like Lamb of God. Yet here we are.

'COLD BLOOD' starts off purely sounding like a Lamb of God song, but once you hit the second verse, things slow down with an eerie tremble. They do this kind of back-and-forth that meshes Lamb of God's intensity to HEALTH's mysterious and shadowy aura, before combining forces with a level of brutality that could punch a hole into the earth. —Kara Bodegon-Hikino, Staff Writer

'GANADARA' - Jay Park & IU

When this announcement first came out, I was so confused. You’re telling me that Jay Park and IU were going to be the same song? Unbelievable. But surprisingly enough, it’s a collab that I never thought I needed. They work so well together and the song is so catchy. I love it. —Franchesca Judine Basbas, Staff Writer

'we’re gonna die anyway!!!' - RENE & Marian Carmel

Admittedly, I still have missing gaps in my knowledge of the local music scene, but I just want to bring attention to this collaboration between Singaporean singer-songwriters RENE and Marian Carmel is just so wholesome and endearing. Their voices work really well together and they’re simply adorable in the music video too! I will be checking out more of their music for sure. —Fidel Tan, Writer

'Memory Leaves' - Anomalie & Masego

Anomalie has established himself as a formidable musician in the jazztronica space through the Métropole albums, and Masego’s just had a Grammy-nominated album in Staying Abroad. Although Masego’s made creative exploration part of his brand, I’d have never predicted this collaboration.

A slightly unique soundscape for the rapper-singer, but the two artists gel so well in this jazz-rap track, with its slightly unpredictable chords, tight drum groove, smooth vocals and a hook that’s repeated just enough to get stuck in your head for a while. —Faseeh, Writer

Top Music Videos of 2022 (so far) – BTS, Red Velvet, SEVENTEEN, Jackson Wang, CHAI, NIKI, and more

'No One Will Teach You' - Monuments & Neema Askari

Monuments couldn't have chosen a stronger opening track for their latest album In Statis. The way 'No One Will Teach You' draws you in brings that familiar feeling of standing in the middle of a moshpit, just moments before your favourite band hits the stage. The hair-raising anticipation leads to one of the most epic throwdowns I've heard in metal this year (so far).

While we've already heard Andrew Garfield, I mean, Andy Cizek, prove his insane vocal abilities, range, and songwriting in pre-In Statis standalone singles, 'No One Will Teach You' gives listeners an even bigger opportunity to see what else he's made of. Back-to-back with Neema Askari, we also get to see a what-if sort of glimpse into what Monuments would've been like if he'd carried on from Fellsilent with guitarist John Browne. Overall, this opening song is one hell of a treat and a massively solid one at that. —Kara Bodegon-Hikino, Staff Writer

'guardian angel' - gim llama & Khundi Panda

There’s nothing I love more than beat switches and an ambitious production. Oftentimes, songs that helm the rap genre are led by even beats and aptitude is judged based on lyricism or flow. ‘guardian angel’ subverts these commonalities with its fundamentally flow-led elements. Instead of rapping on a beat, the track seems as if it was ingeniously thought of, before creating the perfect and most dynamic beat to follow it. —Andrea See, Writer

'Friends' - brb. & SIRUP

When I interviewed SIRUP last May, he mentioned wanting to collaborate with brb. and I immediately knew that it would sound so good. With SIRUP’s smooth, chill party anthems and brb.’s signature brand of flirty R&B, it would have been a match made in heaven. And lo and behold, almost a whole year later, it was exactly that. —Franchesca Judine Basbas, Staff Writer

'DON’T THEY [REMIX]' - Josh Levi & Normani

Turning Red offered more than a heartwarming representation of traditional Asian family practices and a thorough addition to the uprising of generational trauma films this year.

The Disney film also gifted me with the knowledge of the gem of an R&B artist, Josh Levi. Apart from voicing 4*Town’s Aaron Z., the Houston talent is now my go-to for early 2000s-esque R&B music and his remix of 'DON’T THEY' with Normani was the cherry on top of music releases in 2022.

The fusion of their voices is truly the best thing I’ve heard in the music scene for a while and I am calling his break into mainstream real soon. —Andrea See, Writer
