K-pop Twitter achieves record-breaking 7.8 billion global tweets in 2021

With 2021 now in the books, K-pop Twitter celebrates another milestone.

In an announcement made on 27 January, Twitter revealed that they've achieved over 7.8 billion tweets for K-pop Twitter in 2021, surpassing the previous year's 6.8 billion tweets.

Throughout the year, the conversation surrounding K-pop and its artists have grown immensely all over the world, namely in Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, and the US where Twitter reveals as the top 5 countries with the most K-pop fans.

Indonesia also tops the list for countries tweeting most about K-pop, followed by the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and the US.

Twitter also revealed the most-talked-about K-pop acts which global pop group BTS topped the list. Tweets about the 'Butter' act's LA concerts alone totalled over 68 million. Rounding out the top 5 are NCT, ENHYPEN, EXOand BLACKPINK

ENHYPEN also top the list of rising K-pop acts that continued to gain momentum on Twitter, alongside TXT, TREASURE, aespa, and ITZY

In an interview with YeonJeong KimTwitter's Head of Global K-pop and K-Content Partnerships, she shared how Twitter has helped newer K-pop acts achieve global notability. "It became natural for fourth-generation acts to open an account on Twitter before their debut. It gives the fans the opportunity to share in the growth of the artist," YeonJeong said.
