The Weeknd has done it again.

On Wednesday (03/10), IFPI announced that The Weeknd won the IFPI Global Digital Single Award for his single 'Blinding Lights', officially naming the track the world's best-selling single of 2020 across all digital platforms—including single track downloads and streams on paid and ad-supported platforms.

BTS, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Kenshi Yonezu, and more have the best-selling albums of 2020

'Blinding Lights' was lifted off of The Weeknd's critically acclaimed fourth studio record After Hours, which dropped in March last year. The single peaked at #1 in over 30 countries, became the highlight of a viral TikTok dance challenge, and garnered 2.72 billion subscription stream equivalents globally.

"'Blinding Lights' was undoubtedly one of the year’s biggest record breakers and most loved songs," Frances Moore, Chief Executive of IFPI shares in a statement. "It caught the attention of music lovers all over the world. We would like to congratulate The Weeknd on his success, and it is an honour to award him this title."

The Weeknd's 'Blinding Lights is followed by Tones and I's chart-topping single 'Dance Monkey', Roddy Ricch's #1 Billboard Hot 100 offering 'The Box' in the top 3.

The chart continues with SAINt JHN's 5x Platinum single 'Roses' at #4, Dua Lipa's dance anthem 'Don't Start Now' at #5, Future and Drake's collaborative single 'Life Is Good' at #6, Chinese singer and actor Xiao Zhan's successful single 'Made To Love' at #7, DaBaby debuting on the IFPI chart with his Roddy Ricch collab 'Rockstar' at #8, Billie Eilish's GRAMMY Award-winning single 'Bad Guy' at #9, and IFPI 2020 Global Artist of the Year BTS making their first appearance on the IFPI Global Digital Single chart with their phenomenal offering 'Dynamite' at #10.

The first-ever IFPI Global Album All Format Chart, which celebrates the best-selling albums of 2020 based on physical sales, digital downloads, and stats from streaming platforms, will be announced on March 11 (Thursday) at 1 p.m. (GMT) / 9 p.m. (PHT/SGT).
